LET’S PLAY GATEBALL (snooker on grass)

Gateball is a modern spin on mini golf using a stick and numbered balls.  You play strategically for 30 minutes by touching, sliding and sparking.  It is a fast-paced, non contact sport.
Gateball can be played by anyone regardless of age or gender.  Teamwork is the key to winning.  In New Zealand singles and doubles is very popular for the competitive player.  Gateball is a game of skill and strategy, it requires skill like a carom or billiards, players and strategy like a chess or bridge player.

The game is played on a rectangular court 20 m long and 15 m wide. Each court has 3 gates (hoops) and a centre pole.
It consists of two teams. Red and white of up to five players, each player has a numbered ball corresponding to their playing order.  Odd numbers red and even numbers white. Teams score one point for each ball hit through the gate (hoop and two points for hitting the centre goal pole in accordance with the rules. 

The game lasts for 30 minutes only, and the winner is the team with the most points at the end of the game. It can be played at leisure in the daytime or evening.

Some of the countries participating in the sport are Japan, China, India, Europe, Australia, Hawaii, Phillipines, Indonesia, Russia, Brazil, South Africa and Canada. There are over 10 million fans playing gateball worldwide.

New Zealand has 3 clubs playing, and we are now encouraging the younger members of the communities to come and try this very fast game which combines brain play and mild physical exercise, and which can be played by anyone,  young or old.
